OMAHA, Nebraska — Family, friends, artists, and community members will gather tonight in North Omaha to celebrate the life of Jamise Nicole Thompson, a 28-year-old mother of three whose life was tragically cut short in a recent shooting near North 24th and Lizzie Streets.
The event, titled "A Musical Celebration of Life for Jamise Nicole Thompson," will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at North Omaha Music & Arts, 2510 N. 24th Street. Organizers say the evening will feature live music, fellowship, and opportunities for community members to share memories while supporting Thompson's family during an unimaginable period of grief.
Admission is $10, with all proceeds going directly toward funeral and memorial expenses.
According to local media reports, Thompson was killed in a shooting in North Omaha on June 22. Omaha police continue investigating the homicide, which also left a teenager injured. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
Organizers say the event is intended not only as a memorial but also as a call for unity in the face of ongoing gun violence affecting Omaha neighborhoods.
The gathering comes amid renewed concern about violent crime in the city. Last week, Omaha experienced multiple deadly shootings in a single day, prompting local violence prevention advocates to warn that the summer months often bring heightened risks of firearm-related incidents. Community organizations such as YouTurn Omaha have emphasized the importance of conflict mediation, intervention efforts, and community engagement as tools to prevent violence before it escalates.
Friends and loved ones describe Thompson as a devoted mother whose loss leaves a lasting impact on her family and the broader community.
As candles are lit and music fills North 24th Street tonight, organizers hope the celebration serves as both a tribute to Jamise's life and a reminder of the collective responsibility to create safer neighborhoods for future generations.
