If It Ain't Baroque @ North High School

Omaha Symphony is fusing classical, contemporary dance and hip hop music live on stage! Pairing the traditional talents of the Omaha Symphony with the rhythm and soul of Culxr House and six dance companies, this concert will showcase the evolution of sampling in modern music from its roots in classical composition. Alejandro Gómez Guillén will conduct the performance at Omaha North High School, leading the experiment in remixing and reclaiming rhythmic phrases from 400-year-old repertoire and reframing it in the context of 2024. Dance companies will showcase their interpretations of the strong cadence of baroque sounds, and Marcey Yates, a local artist and founder of Culxr House, will be layering beats and vocals with 'live looping" by the orchestra. Also joining us is violinist Jordan Willis, Pear Tree Performing Arts, and others. With a long list of community partners, this concert will truly be a new and unforgettable experience for hip-hop aficionados, classical fans, and music lovers alike.
